40 krishnaarchana april 2023 In preparation for the anniversary of the PrathistaDinam on June 25th, 2023 and subsequent Ulsavam, Guruvayurappan Temple of Brampton will start the Parayeduppu ritual. Parayeduppu or Paraniraikkal is the ritual of filling nellu or paddy in a para and offering it to God to receive blessings for the entire family. In order to conduct Parayeduppu, temple will bring the para, nellu and other required items in a ceremonial manner to the homes of the devotees so that the devotees can offer Parayeduppu in their own homes. This ritual brings the presence of the Lord to every household, blessing the devotees and accepts Para as they are invited and requested to visit temple on upcoming Pratishta Dinam / Ulsavam. Why is such great importance attached to nellu and Para-nirakkal? Nellu (paddy) is the source of rice that provides unending joy and comfort to people and significantly attached to annadanam. Annadanam destroys all sins, brings us good benefits and leads us towards attainment of salvation. When we perform Para-niraikkal with the intention of offering annadanam to the Supreme God, whose grace is all encompassing and all pervasive, the above-mentioned benefits accrue not only to the immediate family members but also to our future generations, in fact the entire lineage. Thanks to our devoted volunteer support, last year temple conducted almost 250 Parayeduppu across Toronto and surrounding regions. Devotees participated and with great enthusiasm and devotion on this auspicious ceremony. How to register and what are the next steps? Devotees must preregister for Parayeduppu online at www.guruvayur. ca. The online form allows you to indicate your contact details and any preference / exclusions with regards to the days. A temple representative will contact the devotee to schedule the Parayeduppu once the route is planned out. Parayeduppu will be performed during a weekend day between mid April to mid June, 2023. The ritual will take approximately 30 minutes at your home and we will be conducting many of these in a day. No special preparation required from devotees except a clean and suitable floor space is made available to setup and conduct parayeduppu. Each city/region will have a team of temple volunteers who will schedule and co-ordinate parayeduppu for your respective city/region. Once registered, please allow one or two weeks for your regional team’s representative to contact you to schedule your parayeduppu and conduct it accordingly. Important Dates: February 2023 – Online registration for Parayeduppu starts at www.guruvayur.ca April 16 2023 – Para Purappad, a ceremonial start where each Desom/regions receives the blessed Para KOLAM, Para, Nellu and other materials from temple and take it to their region to start conducting Parayeduppu.
